At this point, we know very little about X-Men: First Class other than Matthew Vaughn is directing it because he believes the superhero genre is about to go the way of the dodo bird and they’ve managed to assemble a rather impressive cast in a few months. Over the weekend, they’ve added a few more actors to the mix.
The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that the delightful Rose Byrne is in negotiations to play Moira MacTaggert, a genetics scientist and love interest of Professor Xavier (James McAvoy). MacTaggert was previously played by Olivia Williams in an unbilled cameo in Brett Ratner’s X:Men: The Last Stand.
In addition, it was reveled at the British Movie Con that Jason Flemyng (Clash Of The Titans and Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels) will play Azazel, a demonic mutant and father of Nightcrawler, according to Superhero Hype. If you know your X-Men, you would know that Nightcrawler’s mother is Mystique, who’ll be played Jennifer Lawrence in the film. Perhaps, we’ll see a baby Nightcrawler in the sequel?
And finally, Deadline reports that Oliver Platt will play the mysterious ‘ The Man In Black’. Platt will not have any mutant powers, but maybe he’ll have the power to bring Laura Linney over to the set for a brief cameo appearance.
All of these actors join the previously announced: Kevin Bacon (the villain), Michael Fassbender (Magneto), Alice Eve (Emma Frost), Nicolas Hoult (Beast) and a few others. It’s an impressive cast and it may potentially become more impressive as the film begins filming.
